Louisville Pressure Washing Tips and Guides

What this is for

These are the questions we get asked on driveways, written down properly so you can read the answer before you call anyone. Most of them come down to the same thing: exterior cleaning goes wrong when the method does not match the surface, and the damage is usually invisible until later.

Nothing here is written to sell you a wash. If the honest answer to a question is that you do not need one, that is what it says. Every number is sourced, and where the figure is a Louisville area average rather than our own price, it says so.

If you want the short version: never pressure wash a roof, the black streaks are algae eating the limestone filler in your shingles, and a house wash here runs about $0.25 per square foot of home. The posts explain why.

What we write about, and what we do not

Three subjects come up more than everything else combined, so those are what we cover first. What the black streaking on a roof actually is, and why the obvious way to remove it is the one that shortens the life of the roof. The difference between soft washing and pressure washing, which sounds like marketing until you understand that one of them removes the granules protecting your shingles. And what this work costs, with real per square foot numbers rather than a national average and a shrug.

What we do not write is seasonal filler. There is no post here telling you that spring is a great time to think about your home's exterior. If a subject does not change a decision you are about to make, it does not get written up.

Louisville specifics run through all of it, because they matter. Roofs under the canopy in Anchorage hold moss as well as algae. Houses near the bourbon warehouses in Bardstown deal with a black fungus that feeds on ethanol vapor. Neither of those is in a generic article about pressure washing.
