Siding does not need high pressure, it needs the right solution and patience. We use a low pressure soft wash to take mold, mildew, algae and dirt off vinyl, brick, stucco and wood without damaging paint, caulking or trim, and without driving water in behind the panels. Eaves, soffits and fascia get cleaned with it, not around it.
Anchorage is the hardest place in the county to keep a roof clean, and the reason is the thing everyone moves here for. The city sits in wooded hills and valleys along branches of Beargrass and Goose Creeks, under a canopy of oaks and magnolias. The Anchorage Historic District has been on the National Register since 1982, so a lot of that housing is old, and the tree cover keeps houses sitting in shade rather than lined up for the sun.
Constant shade plus creek humidity is the worst combination there is for algae and moss. Roofs under an oak canopy stay damp for hours after the rest of the county has dried, and leaf litter holds that moisture against the shingle. It is also why moss, not just algae, shows up on Anchorage roofs more often than on open lots a few miles away.

Historic properties set the method here. Roofs and siding are soft washed rather than pressured, and anything original stays original, with the growth killed at the root so it does not come straight back under the same canopy. Flatwork is the exception: concrete still takes real pressure.

Roofs and siding get a soft wash: low pressure plus a cleaning solution that kills algae and mildew at the root, instead of high pressure that strips shingle granules and forces water behind siding. High pressure is for flatwork like driveways and sidewalks, not for the parts of your house that were never built to take it.
Never on the roof. High pressure strips the protective granules off asphalt shingles, and they do not grow back. Consumer Reports publishes 1,500 to 3,000 PSI as the range for concrete, and a shingle is nothing like concrete. The same goes for painted wood, old mortar and stucco, which lift or erode under force. Those surfaces get a soft wash instead: low pressure plus a cleaning solution.
